ScienceDaily (June 26, 2007) — Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania say that practicing even small doses of daily meditation may improve focus and performance.
Meditation, according to Penn neuroscientist Amishi Jha and Michael Baime, director of Penn's Stress Management Program, is an active and effortful process that literally changes the way the brain works. Their study is the first to examine how meditation may modify the three subcomponents of attention, including the ability to prioritize and manage tasks and goals, the ability to voluntarily focus on specific information and the ability to stay alert to the environment.
In the Penn study, subjects were split into two categories. Those new to meditation, or "mindfulness training," took part in an eight-week course that included up to 30 minutes of daily meditation. The second group was more experienced with meditation and attended an intensive full-time, one-month retreat.
Researchers found that even for those new to the practice, meditation enhanced performance and the ability to focus attention. Performance-based measures of cognitive function demonstrated improvements in a matter of weeks. The study, to be published in the journal Cognitive, Affective, & Behavioral Neuroscience, suggests a new, non-medical means for improving focus and cognitive ability among disparate populations and has implications for workplace performance and learning.
Participants performed tasks at a computer that measured response speeds and accuracy. At the outset, retreat participants who were experienced in meditation demonstrated better executive functioning skills, the cognitive ability to voluntarily focus, manage tasks and prioritize goals. Upon completion of the eight-week training, participants new to meditation had greater improvement in their ability to quickly and accurately move and focus attention, a process known as "orienting." After the one-month intensive retreat, participants also improved their ability to keep attention "at the ready."
The results suggest that meditation, even as little as 30 minutes daily, may improve attention and focus for those with heavy demands on their time. While practicing meditation may itself may not be relaxing or restful, the attention-performance improvements that come with practice may paradoxically allow us to be more relaxed.
The research was supported by the National Institutes of Health and the Penn Stress Management Program.

Taken from the SIGA Success Strategies online magazine.
It might have been his intuition that first guided Jose Silva to recognize the value of the 10 cycles per second alpha brain wave frequency, but he soon found more scientific evidence to support his belief that it is extremely valuable.
Here is what he had to say about it:
Alpha functioning, by Jose Silva
When a person is taught to function at the correct brain frequency, the brain frequency that has been named "alpha" by scientists, the person can use the right brain hemisphere to be healthier, happier, and more successful.
Alpha covers a range between 7 and 14 cycles or Hertz per second - the vibration of the electrical energy of the brain. The center of Alpha would then be 10.5, but it is known as Alpha 10 cycles or Hertz per second.
Another area where this 10 Hertz Alpha is mentioned is in Astronomy. It has been said that the space formed between the earth and the ionosphere forms a resonating cavity pulsing magnetically at 10 Hertz per second. This magnetic pulsing energy is now considered a fundamental universal life producing energy.
In the human brain we find electricity, magnetism and chemistry. Experiments conducted with the 10 Hertz magnetic field has been proven to excite, to stimulate the atomic particles in matter.
When a person has learned to function consciously at a brain frequency of 10 Hertz, that person is in harmony with the universal energy in space.
When a person is in resonance with the universal energy in space, subatomic particles in the person's body chemistry are being stimulated, excited.
This excitation is passed on to the immune system who controls body chemistry, strengthening the immune system.
A person staying in harmony with universal energy for 15 minutes a day is therapeutic and healthy. When this is done it will maintain a person in good health.
When a person is sick, depending on the seriousness of the problem, one, two, and even three 15-minute sessions of mental exercises may be advised for healing.
Using the subconscious consciously
When a person is consciously functioning at 10 Hertz, at that time that person, beside being in resonance with universal energy, strengthening the immune system, that person can also use the information stored in the subconscious consciously.
Each brain hemisphere has a set of senses:
*The left has set of objective, physical, biological senses.
*The right has a set of subjective, spiritual senses.
The objective senses detect information and records it on the left brain hemisphere and records a duplicate in the right brain hemisphere.
The subjective senses sense information and records it on the right brain hemisphere, but no duplicate is transferred to the left brain hemisphere. This indicates that there is bound to be more problem solving information in the right brain than in the left.
People without the Silva Method training cannot use the information stored in the right brain, they consider that information to be in the subconscious.
Those who have learned to function consciously at 10 Hertz call that dimension the inner conscious, and they can use the information stored in the right brain hemisphere because for them it is not subconscious, meaning it is not beyond their reach.
This means that the right brain thinker has more information at his disposal for problem solving. A successful person is one who solves more problems and information is needed in problem solving.
The Silva Method is the instrument that helps humanity to transcend genius intelligence and move into the second phase of human development on this planet.

What IS The Silva Method?
After 20 years’ experience as a Silva Method instructor the
best way I’ve found to answer that question is by pointing out…
First, The SilvaMethod provides an easy, reliable process
to attain the Alpha level of brainwave functioning. This is also known as the
Meditative State. In Silva, we refer to it as ‘our Level’.
This is the ‘level’ of brain/mind
activity where we function at our strongest. It’s good to know that we can attain
this brainwave state at will; for as long as we choose; and we leave it when we
choose.
Then we have a
collection of superb multi-use mental techniques - I think of them as mental tools - from
which we can create our dreams and desires i.e. Manifest!
We use these mental tools while in the
Alpha, or Meditative, brainwave state. This
we call ‘programming’.
As I often say in classes, the
limits of these tools are only your own needs / desires and your own creativity.
After ending a programming session, it’s time to take physical
action which is in line with the programming you’ve done.
Because there are practice exercises included in the course,
after taking The Silva Method you have greater skill using your meditative
state – your Level – and you have a powerful set of multi-use mental tools for designing
the life of your dreams.

What If You Didn't Understand Your Answer?
12-8-11
In meditation (or prayer) you've asked a question to obtain guidance from Spirit.
You don't understand the answer or feel you didn't get an answer. What now?
First let's look at the most important part of your answer...the question: The quality of the answer is determined by the quality of the question.
Sometimes what we're really asking is "How can I make this pain stop?" That will get a vague response.
How can you ask a better question? phrase the question differently?
Spend time considering your situation in detail. Yes, it will most likely be an uncomfortable process but it provides the clarity you need. THEN create the question.
"Should I do this?" is a poor question.
Hint: if the question starts "Should I..." it's probably looking for a way to stop pain instead of getting guidance!
How can it be improved? One suggestion might be "If I do this, will it move me further along the path of my life purpose?"
Bottom line: give yourself the opportunity to really think about the situation before posing the question.
Next, when in your meditation, make sure you're at that perfect place where you know you're successful at getting guidance. Some people call it "being in the groove".
Perhaps you need to go deeper. How? One of the simplest ways is to count downward from 100 to 1...any number down to 1 will do. There's something about counting down that causes almost anybody to relax.
Then, assume your answer is coming at any moment. All you have to do is be 'on the alert' for it.
In Silva classes we often talk about this when discussing use of The Glass of Water technique yet it's true virtually all the time. We ask questions, look for Guidance, on a regular basis.
Bottom line: what we look for, we find. This applies to answers, ideas, opportunities...everything! Keep your eyes focused on what you desire and you'll see it.

Why Meditation?
Would you like to have more peace, health, happiness
and abundance in your life?
Have you identified the things that provide or create them?
Are you doing these things yet?
Interesting questions, aren't they.
One of the things that I KNOW brings more peace, health, happiness and abundance is meditation. If you're a Silva Method Graduate, you've heard me (or another instructor) talking about this. You may sort of know that meditation does this but still not spend time regularly experiencing that quiet time...meditation.
Ask yourself "Why?" or "Why not?" What's so hard about taking 10 or 15 minutes a day to sit still, eyes closed, and experience the quiet?
Part of the answer may be that you think you have to DO something to be of value, to be of worth, to be effective and productive. Yet the 'busyness' of doing may actually repel the very things we're desiring and expecting!
But now ask yourself "If I don’t think I'm worthy of taking this time, would Source believe I truly value the things (peace, health, happiness and abundance) that I say I desire? ...things that come through meditation?"
"Does Source believe I desire lowered stress?" "...more income?" "...solutions to problems?" "...a better life?" etc.
"By my actions, what am I showing Source I desire?"
Some people feel that spending time in meditation is selfish yet taking care of yourself assures that you have the ability to share more with others. Remember: the more abundance
we have, the more we can share with others...the more time we have to be with family and friends...and the more adventures we may experience.
So let's think about what meditation really is. It's a quiet time, usually with eyes closed.
Seems simple to me. How about you?
But is there more to it? Well, there may be. It depends on what form of meditation you're using as well as what your intentions and expectations are.
Many people meditate to enhance spiritual growth and deepen inner peace.
They listen for the 'still, soft voice' of their Guidance/Source. Ask a question...receive an answer.
By the way, 'voice' may suggest you could be 'hearing voices' like a mentally ill person. Not so. Some people may seem to hear something but it's almost always 'inside their head' not in their ears. Most often, it's a thought or series of thoughts on the same or similar theme.
Some people use this quiet time to 'program' for specific manifestations such as improved health, a life partner, a new job...in other words, a specific outcome.
Other benefits would be managing stress, energize, center and balance the physical, emotional and mental bodies. No matter why you take this quiet time - meditation - you benefit.
I'd like to remind you of the saying “energy flows where attention goes.”
Every time you have a thought - no matter what the topic - you've turned on a magnet that draws it to you. Certainly if you have few thoughts on one topic, it's a very weak magnet. Lots of thoughts means a strong magnetic attraction.
Lots of thoughts on your desired outcome or goal, makes a strong attraction. If your thoughts are fearful, then you're attracting situations which cause you to feel more fear!
Whenever you repeatedly think of the same thing, you're drawing it to you.
Whether you're a Silva Graduate or not, you can take a few minutes, a few times a day, to just sit with your eyes closed. Follow your breath and let your mind grow quieter. Know that on the in-breath you're experiencing healthy energy. On the out-breath, you send out worry,
stress, tension and limiting beliefs. Doing this slows the mind-chatter.
Sitting quietly for 15 minutes, three times a day improves health - physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
This can make a powerful
difference in your life...even if all you do is take time to breathe.

As many of you might know, last December, we hosted a personal growth getaway on the pristine beaches of Costa Rica called AwesomenessFest. About 200 people passionate about self development and spirituality came together, connected, and shared their learnings.
So for those who couldn’t join us, I wanted to share one of the best rated speeches at AwesomenessFest. It’s by psychic, David Morelli. He’s incredibly successful, having hit 2 million-dollar businesses over the past couple years and his radio show podcast, Everything Is Energy (hosted by him and his wife, Kristin) is the #3 show on iTunes just behind Oprah Winfrey and Marianne Williamson.
And he achieved all this using his intuition. Check out this video and if you want to skip straight to the meditation at the end, fast forward to the minute 22:33.

Connect To Your Creative Spirit Through Music, Visualization and Meditation
By Paul Hoffman of Success Songs
The world is but a canvas to the imagination. — Henry David Thoreau
The great OM of life, that natural willingness for you to open your soul to what is seeking to be expressed comes from a committed consciousness that is developed by learning how to master your mind. It is in those moments of curious inflection that the call of your soul speaks loudest so that you hear the calling of your heart.
Each day you are on an adventure. The discoverer in you is seeking to cross the bridges of possibility so that the opportunity to live life from your higher purpose ignites a passion in you to step out of the shadows of uncertainty and into the light of flowness. Your Creative Flow!!!
So What Is Creativity?
Creativity is the messenger of imagination, the kindred spirit of inspiration, the guiding light of unlimited ideas and the energetic vibration that encourages you to flow and go.
There is an inherent presence in you, a dynamic uniqueness that is guided by an individuality that is awakened when you awaken to your Creative Spirit. Being in the flow of your creativity heightens your awareness so that Your Voice Of Action™ communicates in a way so you know all things are possible and you welcome the sense of surprise into your life.
The Power Of Autosuggestion
Your mind works in the ways you tell it to. You create your reality. The food of genius you put into it will harvest according to the mindset you operate from. When you are a witness to your inner dialogue you harness the power of your creative spirit. Therefore, it is important that you cultivate a process so you can listen to what you say to yourself.
Freeing himself of a drug and alcohol addiction, Paul Hoffman turned his life around because of his commitment to bringing himself back to the core of his being.
With the discovery of meditation, he was reconnected to the real source of his inspiration, which was his heart. He had rediscovered himself and re-ignited his passion for music.
He is now dedicated to helping others through meditation and music and works to shift people at a subconscious level, empowering and motivating the listener to wake-up to who they really are. He is also the co-author of the widely acclaimed Sonic Access Meditation program with Paul Scheele.
Napoleon Hill said: ”Your ability to use the principle of autosuggestion will depend, very largely, upon your capacity to concentrate upon a given desire until that desire becomes a burning obsession.”
So when you align your inner mind with the magic of your soul and the calling of your heart your outer desires will be created from the realm of your greatness!
7 Steps To Create Harmony With Your Creative Spirit
I recommend creating a daily ritual to help guide you through the constant egoic chatter of the day so that what you create comes from your Action Voice.™ This is a process I do each day and always before I am ready to make a strategic decision so I am in harmony with my creative spirit.
1.Quiet The Mind
2.Connect To Your Heart
3.Listen To Your Intuition
4.Free Your Imagination
5.Visualize Your Outcomes
6.Capture Your Inspirations
7.Communicate In Your Action Voice™
You see the way you communicate to yourself will create the energy that you act from. Living in your genius is a practice that is accompanied by a focused discipline to connect to your higher purpose. You must be available to your inner core of brilliance in order to cultivate that practice.
Your Heart’s Invitation To You
There is a transparency in you that invites you to fulfill the calling of your heart. It is present in every moment of your day as a timeless extension of your beingness always looking for ways to seek out and to express the picture of your soul.
As Michelangelo said “I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.” That is the same as giving yourself permission to live unencumbered by any thoughts of lack and limitation and to step into the true power that resides within you so you create magic in every moment.
Just remember all great ideas came from a thought that someone thought up. And not everyone thought some of those ideas were worth anything but as Albert Camus said: “All great deeds and all great thoughts have a ridiculous beginning.” Courage is infectious and creativity is contagious.
Connect To Your Creative Spirit Through Music, Meditation, & Visualization
There are many ways to connect to your Creative Spirit. Some of us experience the awakening of the Creative Spirit through intuitive journeys while others connect to it through the use of other creative pathways such as Music, Meditation and Visualization.
Music stirs the soul. Meditation quiets the mind freeing the heart to seek and express the passion within and Visualization allows you to see the end in mind so that you can create a plan to manifest your desires.
Music, Meditation and Visualization will open your success chakras, connect you to your passion, awaken your sense of purpose, strengthen your mind and offer you a pristine view of your soul. The greatest minds in the world used these disciplines to enhance their creativity.
Focused Intention
One of the pre-requisites to tapping into your creativity is to have a practice of focused intention. Mark Twain said “You can’t depend on your eyes when your imagination is out of focus.” Being certain of mind creates clarity and releases any barriers to your success.
Music frees the mind. How many times have you been stuck in a particular place in your thinking and when you put on a piece of music you all of a sudden seemed to think in ways that resulted in a renewed sense of enthusiasm. You begin to look for new ways to solve challenges.
Listening to a piece of music that stirs the imagination evokes an emotion of expansiveness, encourages the taking of positive actions and ignites feelings of joy. It will ready you for the most complex tasks you may have thought were impossible, creating a direct path to unleashing your creativity.
Music also evokes positive feelings in an instant giving you an emotional shift in consciousness. It is almost as if an internal switch is flipped and you all of a sudden feel a heightened sense of awareness for what you are doing.
As Plato said “Music is the movement of sound to reach the soul for the education of its virtue.” Music opens the door to an infinite view of creativity that speaks passionately to the calling of your heart.
Meditation produces a state of calm that will ready you for a renewed sense of inspiration. Meditation invites your imagination to open your mind in ways that produce insights of opportunities and beliefs of possibility. Many great thinkers used meditation to produce extraordinary results.
Having a daily meditation practice readies you for your day. Knowing that the mind processes so much information having a practice to filter out the bits that distract you will keep you focused. When you master your mind you create a flow of thought that will be in alignment with your vision in the moment. Meditation helps you do that.
As John Maynard Keynes said: “The difficulty lies not so much in developing new ideas as in escaping from old ones.” Meditation releases any difficulty of thought and ushers in a landscape of what is truly possible for you to create.
And finally learn to Visualize your outcomes. How you view your day, what mental picture you hold for it determines the outcomes you will create. The greatest inventions and discoveries were made by those who had a mental picture of what they wanted to do and then thought big and bold and took action. They welcomed being surprised.
Your mind is alive and always in search of the ideas that will bring into reality the results you are seeking. As you look out over the landscape of your day you begin to see an oasis of opportunity. The more vivid the picture, the more powerful the urge to make it your reality and the more you will listen to the rhythm of your soul.
Holding a clear vision brings into focus the seeds of creativity that are in the garden of your mind. You then begin to operate from a big thinking mentality and an abundant point of view. You see the unseen!
Einstein said: The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science. He to whom the emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause and stand wrapped in awe, is as good as dead; his eyes are closed.”
However your creativity shows up, know that you have the power to step into the magic of your life by bridging the awesomeness of your essence with the spirit of your authenticity.
You Are Already Being Guided To Fulfillment
All around you an energetic vibration of prosperity guides you towards the fulfillment of your dreams. Savor the abundance of your imagination and the unlimited creative spirit within you. One of my mantras is: “If what you dream wasn’t already inside of you how could you even dream it.” Think about that. You have it all right where you are. Right NOW!
Some of you may ask, am I creative? Some of you even proclaim to yourself that you are not creative. You may even fear the creativity in you. Your creativity is always present and always available to you. Remember everything you do is based on a creative expression that you think up. It is an idea in your mind, a blossoming of your spirit.
The creative spirit within you connects you to your greatness and your potential to spread your awesomeness in all you do. Creativity is the fuel that sparks your imagination. It is the wave of discovery that opens you up to stepping into the light of your genius. It is the all-knowing power that sets you apart from mediocrity. It is the calling card of your individuality.
Do not be held back by limiting beliefs. Free your mind so your soul opens up to the magnificence of each moment. Connect to the unlimited power in you to have it all. Einstein said “If at first, the idea is not absurd, then there is no hope for it. “
There is a vast reservoir of creativity within you. Listen to it so that you begin to create your life the way you want it to look like. Your thoughts are dripping with possibility. Follow your glow of brilliance. And begin to see that where you are has always been where you wanted to be.
A large part of my life has manifested through meditation, music, and visualization. That’s why I’m so excited to share with you two amazing audio tracks that takes these three mediums to give you the inspiration, boost, and creativity to turn your intentions into reality.

The Silva Method in the Land Where Meditation Began
Welcome to another edition of the SIGA Success Strategies online magazine.
Here is an article that Jose Silva wrote several years ago, after he returned from a very successful trip to India, where people were very happy to see him.
By JOSE SILVA
The Silva Method is a big success in the land where meditation began.
We just returned from a three-week visit to India and Bangladesh where more than 1,000 people came to the advanced Silva Method training with me.
Yoga is the oldest meditation system known. It began in India at least 5,000 years ago.
Yogis typically meditate at theta levels. This is why some of them are able to perform amazing feats with their bodies - sleeping on a bed of nails, slowing their metabolism so that they can be buried alive for a month, withstanding great pain.
But they cannot become mentally active at the theta level.
They told us that yoga feels wonderful. It can bring a sense of oneness, a feeling of euphoria. They say that they often gain great insight.
Yet with all of this, India still has a great amount of poverty and suffering.
Yoga is too slow, they report. It takes too long to learn how to solve the problems that they have here and now, and even then they seem limited compared to the techniques of the Silva Method.
We took the Ultra Seminar to India, presenting the 2-day program in Bombay and New Delhi, and also to Bangladesh. In all, more than 1,000 Silva Method graduates attended.
They learned new techniques to use to heal themselves and others:
*We taught them the Silva Rapid Hand Vibration Healing Method. We asked for volunteers, as we always do.
Several people came up front who were in pain, or who had limited mobility. Several others came up who wanted to be healers. We showed the healers what to do, and, as always happens, the subjects showed substantial improvement.
*They learned the complete laying on of hands system that has proven so successful, even for people with so-called "terminal" illnesses. They watched us demonstrate it, and then they practiced it themselves.
*They learned how to read the Silva Standard Conditioning Cycle to their loved ones, and then practiced reading it to each other. Now they are able to help their family members by teaching them how to find their level and use the Silva Method formula-type techniques.
*We showed them several additional ways that they can get a person into a receptive programming state, through confusion, suspense, and so forth.
*We covered the use of reinforcing mechanisms so that their programming will continue to work even when they are not present. It is sort of like a "timed release" medicine.
*They saw demonstrations of biofeedback equipment and learned many ways that it can help them to improve their lives. We showed them how to use a small tape player as a healing instrument.
*They found out how to program for various business situations, such as learning how to use a reinforcing mechanism to program a person to have a desire to pay a debt.
*They learned even more, such as how to use their level to strengthen family ties and build better relationships, the best time to program, special techniques to improve visualization, psychometry, and more.
It was only a few years ago that we first introduced the Silva Method in India. Bob Stone, the co-author of several of our books, opened the door for us.
Bob reported that the first time he went to India to talk about the Silva Method and effective the techniques are, one member of the audience spoke up and said, "Dr. Stone, it seems like you are storming the gates of heaven."
Bob said that he took a deep breath, looked him in the eye and answered, "Well, maybe it's time that we did."
The audience applauded enthusiastically.
Bimolendu Rakshit is our director in India, and Mahee Quazi in Bangladesh. They are adding new scientific findings to an old tradition of meditation and introspection.
The result is that more problems are being solved, people's lives are improving, and the world is becoming a little better place to live.

Meditation Found To Increase Brain Size
by FinerMinds Team April 13, 2009
Because of the overwhelming response we’ve had to our post on Super Brain Yoga, we’d like to introduce you to an amazing study conducted in the field of meditation. For the first time there is scientific evidence that meditation does indeed affect the physical structure of the brain.
For decades the benefits of meditation have been known, studied, and advertised. But it wasn’t until recently that science has come around and acknowledged the physical and cognitive advantages of meditation. Researchers at Yale, Harvard and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have discovered that meditation can indeed change the physical structure of the brain.
The article below summarizes the research that has been conducted thus far and what this means in terms of slowing down aging, improving cognitive thinking, and enhancing health and well-being. The type of meditation and quality of meditation used in the studies are also discussed.
Have a look at the article and let us know whether you think the change in brain structure is significant and if it represents a physical embodiment of the benefits of meditation

People who meditate grow bigger brains than those who don’t. Researchers at Harvard, Yale, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have found the first evidence that meditation can alter the physical structure of our brains. Brain scans they conducted reveal that experienced meditators boasted increased thickness in parts of the brain that deal with attention and processing sensory input.
In one area of gray matter, the thickening turns out to be more pronounced in older than in younger people. That’s intriguing because those sections of the human cortex, or thinking cap, normally get thinner as we age.
Our data suggest that meditation practice can promote cortical plasticity in adults in areas important for cognitive and emotional processing and well-being,” says Sara Lazar, leader of the study and a psychologist at Harvard Medical School. “These findings are consistent with other studies that demonstrated increased thickness of music areas in the brains of musicians, and visual and motor areas in the brains of jugglers. In other words, the structure of an adult brain can change in response to repeated practice.”
The researchers compared brain scans of 20 experienced meditators with those of 15 nonmeditators. Four of the former taught meditation or yoga, but they were not monks living in seclusion. The rest worked in careers such as law, health care, and journalism. All the participants were white. During scanning, the meditators meditated; the others just relaxed and thought about whatever they wanted.
Meditators did Buddhist “insight meditation,” which focuses on whatever is there, like noise or body sensations. It doesn’t involve “om,” other mantras, or chanting.
“The goal is to pay attention to sensory experience, rather than to your thoughts about the sensory experience,” Lazar explains. “For example, if you suddenly hear a noise, you just listen to it rather than thinking about it. If your leg falls asleep, you just notice the physical sensations. If nothing is there, you pay attention to your breathing.” Successful meditators get used to not thinking or elaborating things in their mind.
Study participants meditated an average of about 40 minutes a day. Some had been doing it for only a year, others for decades. Depth of the meditation was measured by the slowing of breathing rates. Those most deeply involved in the meditation showed the greatest changes in brain structure. “This strongly suggests,” Lazar concludes, “that the differences in brain structure were caused by the meditation, rather than that differences in brain thickness got them into meditation in the first place.”
Lazar took up meditation about 10 years ago and now practices insight meditation about three times a week. At first she was not sure it would work. But “I have definitely experienced beneficial changes,” she says. “It reduces stress [and] increases my clarity of thought and my tolerance for staying focused in difficult situations.”
Controlling random thoughts
Insight meditation can be practiced anytime, anywhere. “People who do it quickly realize that much of what goes on in their heads involves random thoughts that often have little substance,” Lazar comments. “The goal is not so much to ‘empty’ your head, but to not get caught up in random thoughts that pop into consciousness.”
She uses this example: Facing an important deadline, people tend to worry about what will happen if they miss it, or if the end product will be good enough to suit the boss. You can drive yourself crazy with unproductive “what if” worry. “If, instead, you focus on the present moment, on what needs to be done and what is happening right now, then much of the feeling of stress goes away,” Lazar says. “Feelings become less obstructive and more motivational.”
The increased thickness of gray matter is not very much, 4 to 8 thousandths of an inch. “These increases are proportional to the time a person has been meditating during their lives,” Lazar notes. “This suggests that the thickness differences are acquired through extensive practice and not simply due to differences between meditators and nonmeditators.”
As small as they are, you can bet those differences are going to lead to lots more studies to find out just what is going on and how meditation might better be used to improve health and well-being, and even slow aging
More basic questions need to be answered. What causes the increased thickness? Does meditation produce more connections between brain cells, or more blood vessels? How does increased brain thickness influence daily behavior? Does it promote increased communication between intellectual and emotional areas of the brain?
To get answers, larger studies are planned at Massachusetts General Hospital, the Harvard-affiliated facility where Lazar is a research scientist and where these first studies were done. That work included only 20 meditators and their brains were scanned only once.
“The results were very encouraging,” Lazar remarks. “But further research needs to be done using a larger number of people and testing them multiple times. We also need to examine their brains both before and after learning to meditate. Our group is currently planning to do this. Eventually, such research should reveal more about the function of the thickening; that is, how it affects emotions and knowing in terms of both awareness and judgment.”
Slowing aging?
Since this type of meditation counteracts the natural thinning of the thinking surface of the brain, could it play a role in slowing – even reversing – aging? That could really be mind-boggling in the most positive sense.
Lazar is cautious in her answer. “Our data suggest that one small bit of brain appears to have a slower rate of cortical thinning, so meditation may help slow some aspects of cognitive aging,” she agrees. “But it’s important to remember that monks and yogis suffer from the same ailments as the rest of us. They get old and die, too. However, they do claim to enjoy an increased capacity for attention and memory.”

Heart-Connected Communication and Inner-Ease
With the increasing energetic modulations of the planetary shift, communications with others can be more challenging at times. Many people report that they are becoming more susceptible to irritation, frustration and impatience within themselves and in communications with others. Much of this stems from us adjusting to the speed-up of incoming universal energy, which is replacing the old paradigm of separation with heart-based connection.
As we embrace each other as aspects of ourselves through heart-connected communication, this helps to balance and integrate the new energy — while creating a higher frequency field environment that helps others also integrate the new energy more easily.
Now through the New Year, let's spend a few minutes each day breathing love into the global field environment. While breathing love, visualize humanity increasingly connecting with each other from the genuine heart, with non-judgment and compassion. See yourself practicing inner-ease through the day, which creates more flow in your interactions and choices.
Practicing inner-ease also helps keep the heart open, which facilitates the needed balance between the mind and emotions, especially as everything seems to be speeding up. When our mind and emotions are aligned with the heart, it increases our intuitive discernment resulting in higher choices as we navigate and create through life’s experiences and communications.
Including our heart's intelligence in all things especially helps balance and strengthen our personal energy field, and is a proactive contribution to the global energetic environment.
These practices can help reduce much collective and personal stress along with helping to raise our individual coherence baseline.
You can join with others around the world in the Global Care Room as you breathe love into the global field environment to facilitate heart-connected communication and inner-ease. Alpha All The Time?
Often when talking to students of The Silva Method as well as other pursuits, I'm asked how to stay in alpha all the time. My answer is always "It's not necessary or appropriate to be in alpha all the time." The following article from SIGA is on this very topic. Let's listen to Jose's thoughts on the subject:
Sometimes people ask us how they can remain at the alpha level all day.
We explain that they can learn to have alpha functioning at any time in order to detect information, make decisions, and correct problems.
Once we have obtained the information and made our decisions and correct problems mentally, then we need to use the 20 cycles per second beta frequency and get into action in order to manifest the solution in the physical dimension.
Here is the way that Jose Silva saw it:
by Jose Silva
Success is not for the timid. It is for those who seek guidance, make decisions, and take decisive action.
Many people learn how to program very effectively, and often they are able to get those things that they program for. Yet they still find their lives limited and unfulfilled.
Other people are very creative, and come up with many excellent ideas, yet never seem to achieve very much, or make money from their ideas, or help anybody with those ideas.
You find all kinds of people. There are those who are excellent at research, at digging out the facts, yet they never determine what to do with those things that they learn.
Some people are so paralyzed by indecision that they literally become nervous wrecks.
To achieve success - and by success I mean whatever you determine success to be for you - you must take appropriate action, for wishing does not make it so. Proper programming, coupled with appropriate action, makes things happen.
HOW TO PROCEED
Let's take it step by step.
First, seek guidance. You do this by entering your level, functioning in the subjective dimension where prayers are effective, where you can make contact with High Intelligence. Consider your qualifications, what you like, the things you are good at. Then ask what you should do to serve, how you can help the Creator. Be aware of your strong points, but do not limit yourself; expect creative guidance.
Then clear your mind; expect an answer. Some people spend all their time asking and talking. You must be a good listener. If necessary, use your Glass of Water Technique to obtain guidance. The guidance will come. Then you are ready for the second step.
Second, you decide how to fulfill your purpose in life. This involves both time at level, and action in the physical world. You must program for success, and you must also start doing something.
Some people want to wait until they are perfect before they are ready to fulfill their missions. This is a mistake. If you were perfect, you would not be here in this classroom called Earth. This is our training ground - on-the-job training.
It is very important to learn all you can while you are here. And it is important to love, and to express your love, to other humans on this planet. Learning how to interact better in relationships with other humans is something very important while we are here.
We have a choice about our relationships with others. We can compete, or we can cooperate. Throughout the world, many people are competing -- often with guns and bombs. It is important that we change this, and help bring peace to our planet.
(This column originally appeared in the Silva Method Newsletter in 1984.)

Success Using the Silva Method
Certain principles apply to achieving success with all of the techniques in the Silva Method.
There are seminars and home study courses to help you in every area of your life, from health and relationships to business and learning and sports and more.
Common factors that are necessary for success with all of the techniques, in all areas of life, are:
Functioning at the alpha level, and
using visualization and
imagination.
Fortunately, Jose Silva did not have good visualization...Most people don't.
Our research indicates that about 10 percent of people have good mental images spontaneously when they think of something. Another 10 percent can quickly create a mental image when they think of something.
The rest of us have to take time to recall what the object looks like. If you have completed the Silva Method Basic Lecture Series or the Silva UltraMind ESP System, then you have gone through the process that Jose Silva and most of us go through. (blogger's note: this also would include the Silva Life System and Intuition Training)
Remember in the Projection to Human Anatomy Conditioning, your instructor asks you to recall someone you know very well, whose face you can recall with the least effort. Then you are instructed to recall the person's features, one by one: The hair, the forehead, the skin tone, the eyes, the cheeks, the character of the face. Have you ever wondered: If this is someone whose face I can recall with the least effort, then why do I need to recall all of those details?
Because most of us - 80 percent of us - need to recall those details, to recall what the person looks like, in order to visualize the person.
Most of the ultra successful people who write the "success books" are among the 10 percent who are great natural visualizers. The problem is: They assume that all the rest of us function the same way they do.
Fortunately, Jose Silva functioned like most of us do, so he understood what is necessary in order to achieve success with our programming in the subjective dimension.
The most important factor is the first one we mentioned: Functioning at the alpha level. You can learn that by practicing the Silva Centering Exercise with the procedures that Juan Silva recommends in his great article on Deepening in the Guidance for Grads section of the SIGA.org web site.
Once at your level, you can use visualization and imagination to program to correct problems and improve conditions...provided that you use visualization and imagination at the alpha level. That's the real key to success.
Here is an article from Jose Silva about using these important and valuable tools.
Silva Method techniques will bring about changes for the better in every area of your life: health, relationships, business, learning, self-confidence - anything you desire to change.
Why do they work so well? What mechanisms are involved in making these changes?
The key is functioning in the subjective (mental) dimension. When you enter your level, you are then functioning in the invisible world of the mind, and you are able to make changes in the visible world of the body.
The tools of the subjective dimension are visualization and imagination. They are two faculties of genius.
Let's take a close look at these tools so you will understand exactly what they are and how to use them in the spiritual dimension to make the needed changes.
Remember that it is important to use visualization and imagination in the subjective dimension, that is, at your level. Many books tell you to visualize your goals, but if they do not teach you a method for doing so in the subjective dimension, then this will do you little good.
Visualization is memory. Visualization is remembering what something looks like. Visualization is a receiving mechanism. In the subjective dimension, you receive a mental image of what something looks like.
If your mental image is not as clear as you would like it, simply recall what the subject looks like. Recalling what something looks like is visualization. Recall the details and the colors.
Imagination is a creative process. With imagination, you create a mental image of something you have not seen previously. With imagination, you create whatever you desire.
When you create something in the subjective dimension, with your imagination, then it actually exists - in the subjective dimension - and can be perceived by other people when they are functioning in the subjective dimension.
Everything must first be created in the subjective dimension; then it can manifest in the physical (objective) dimension also.
Imagination is a transmitting mechanism. With imagination, you can transmit your desired end result to the physical dimension.
There is no time or space in the subjective dimension. When you create something, it exists as of that moment. But the physical dimension does have time and space, so it may take time before your desires manifest in physics.
Visualization is the receiving mechanism, imagination is the transmitting mechanism. How do you put these to use?
You can use the 3-Scenes Technique or the Mirror of the Mind Technique.
For the 3-Scenes Technique, use visualization to receive (recall) a metal image of the situation as it exists now, the problem. Then go to the 2nd Scene, to your left (towards the future in the subjective dimension) and visualize whatever you are doing to correct the problem. Then with your imagination, create and transmit to the physical dimension the desired end result, your goal, in the 3rd scene, farthest to your left.
With the Mirror of the Mind, use visualization to receive (recall) a metal image of the situation as it exists now, the problem, in the blue framed mirror. Then erase the problem image, move the mirror to your left (the future in the subjective dimension) and change the frame to white - and with your imagination create and transmit an image of the solution to the physical dimension the desired end result, your goal.
Use this same technique to create better health, better relationships, a better job or increased business, better grades, any traits or characteristics you desire for yourself - anything at all that you want to have, to do, or to be.
You can use the same technique to help other people. First, recall (receive information) about the existing situation (the problem), then use your imagination to create a solution (goal) and transmit it to the physical dimension. Just be certain you do your programming in the subjective dimension, while at your level.
In the future, when you think of your project, visualize (recall) the goal you created with your imagination in the subjective dimension. Take it for granted that the solution already exists, and is being transmitted to the physical dimension so it can manifest in the physical world-of-the-body dimension.
This is what is meant by the phrase "Pray believing you have already received." Our way of saying it is to "Program in the future in a past tense sense."
Take it for granted, and you will get your results.

How to Exercise Your Brain
taken from "How God Changes Your Brain" by Andrew Newberg, M.D. and Mark Robert Waldman
This information is both beneficial for our brain and is consistent with the ideals and goals most of us have for our lives, spiritually and otherwise. How to Exercise Your Brain may seem very familiar to Silva Method Graduates!
There are eight ways we can exercise our brain...I'll follow the authors' lead and list these in reverse order:
8) Smile
Thich Nhat Hanh suggests we do a 'smiling meditation' throughout the day. It's not necessary to stop, sit or lie down, close your eyes and go into the meditative state...just smile. Smile at other people and smile because it feels good!
However don't go into laughter....totally different experience with very different outcomes.
7) Stay intellectually active
No surprise here...we've been hearing for years that intellectual activity is a deterrant to alzheimer's disease. Memory and mnemonic exercises (Silva Memory Pegs!) strategy games such as chess, read books (fiction or non-fiction) educational TV programming, problem solving and quick reasoning are great. Really get into these activities and challenge yourself.
Note: the authors say that crossword puzzles and math exercises don't work.
Make sure you're enjoying yourself!
6) Consciously relax
Deliberate relaxation of areas of your body...sounds like the Silva Long Relax is perfect for this. They also recommend calming music. All reduce stress and that's beneficial 'across the board'.
5) Yawn
Yes, yawn benefits your brain! Yawning relaxes you and brings you into a state of awareness, alertness. On page 158 of "How God Changes Your Brain" the authors list 12 essential reasons to yawn! There are so many ways yawning is beneficial that it's probably best you look into yourself.
4) Meditate and Intensive Prayer
Benefits body and mind as well as the spiritual self. Even 10 - 15 minutes is enough to make a significantly positive effect. Are you in school now? Meditation before testing can significantly improve your score!
Guided visualization and self-hypnosis are in this category too.
3) Aerobic exercise
Not only is exercise beneficial to maintain health it helps in the healing process, including rebuilding damage caused by brain lesions and strokes. Among other physical benefits the immune system gets a boost. The authors note that exercise "can be used to treat clinical depression and it is just as effective as antidepressants."
Exercise can even be considered a form meditation because of the focus involved in using your body. It also enhances relaxation and your spiritual life.
Some researchers believe yoga is as beneficial as more strenuous movement.
You'll want to check the last paragraph on page 161!
2) Talk with others
Social interaction is very important...as we are with others, we talk. The topic here is intellectual conversation, abstract ideas. Discuss ideas and concepts that don't come up at work very often such as the Big Bang theory. Make sure that these conversations are positively stimulating and don't deteriorate into upsetting 'conversations'.
1) Faith
No matter what, we need to trust ourselves. We rely on faith in ourselves, in God, our intuition to go through life. Faith includes or equates with optimism, the trust that a good future awaits us.

UltraSuccessful People, Their Books/Course and How To Get Their Techniques To Work For You
This is part of an article written by Jose Silva.
There have been thousands of books and courses created to help people achieve more success, and they prove useful. for a very few people. In fact, only about one person in ten receives any significant benefit from most of these books and courses...
...let's look first at what makes successful people successful. Not the person with average success, but the person with outstanding success. And not just success in one field, but success in many fields.
These very successful people have goals, of course, and a strong commitment to reach their goals. They are persistent, and are hard workers. They are reasonably intelligent, and relate well to other people.
But many people with average success share these same traits.
So what is the difference?
It is this: People who achieve outstanding success use more of their brains and minds than those who achieve average success.
Most people, approximately ninety percent, use only the left half of the brain for thinking, while the other ten percent use both sides of the brain to think with.
Does this make the ninety percent who are left brain thinkers just half as effective? No, they are usually much less than half as effective. For example, try lifting a bulky object with just one arm instead of two.
Now back to the question of why the Silva Method has helped so many people. While most books and courses motivate people and tell them how to set goals and be more persistent in striving for them, these programs do not teach people how to use the right side of the brain.
The Silva Method is the first program ever created that guides people to start using the right side of the brain to think with.
To develop all of your potential, it is essential that you use both brain hemispheres to think with, because each functions in its own way.
The left brain hemisphere interprets everything logically. The right brain hemisphere perceives things differently: it senses patterns, it creates new combinations that are not limited by logic.
Just take a look at the people who achieve above average success. When they talk, they seem to have a better grasp of things, to understand more quickly. They are more sensitive to people, and seem to know exactly how to deal with them. And they make correct decisions. More correct decisions than the average person.
While the left brain hemisphere is limited by logic, the right brain hemisphere is not biased against any information. It considers everything, and in various combinations. And the right brain hemisphere has access to more information than the left brain hemisphere because it deals with information stored in the subconscious.
Intuition - hunches are a phenomenon of the right brain hemisphere. The right brain hemisphere perceives information that the logical left brain hemisphere misses. When you are able to think with both brain hemispheres, you have much more going for you than if you are limited to only one.
How can you learn to use your right brain hemisphere to think with?
First, learn to relax and slow your brain until you are at a level comparable to light sleep. Then practice using visualization and imagination, and you are using your right brain hemisphere.
With practice, you can learn to reach this level without going to sleep The fastest way to learn is by attending the Silva Method training where a lecturer guides you.
When you have practiced enough, the proper way, then you can evoke that special feeling associated with using the right brain hemisphere at any time, so you will have access to the right brain's abilities whenever you need them.
People who achieve outstanding success all do this, although they may not realize that most people do not function the same way they do. Remember this when you read their books and take their courses. If you apply their techniques with your right brain hemisphere, then you will achieve results the way they do.

Are You Happy but Broke or a Stressed Visionary?
Vishan Lakhiani provided an interesting video today called Which Are You: "Happy but Broke” or a “Stressed Out Visionary?"
Think about what he has to say and discover where you really are. Then think about what that means for you. Do you need to do something differently? If so, what?
Enjoy!
